The final piece in this illustration series is provided here for download in several useful formats. IAMI is the new home to TRIUMF’s Life Sciences division, co-operated with BC Cancer Association, and is presented with interactive imagery throughout this site.

TRIUMF is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people, who for millennia have passed on their culture, history, and traditions from one generation to the next on this site.

Built on 30 years of experience in nuclear medicine and life sciences research

The Institute for Advanced Medical Isotopes (IAMI)
is a next-generation facility for medical isotope production and radiopharmaceutical development.

Located on TRIUMF’s campus, this 2500 m2 facility is comprised of two core components: an integrated series of radiopharmaceutical labs, including dedicated production spaces for critically needed medical isotopes like fluorine-18 and cancer-fighting actinium-225; and a TR-24 medical cyclotron, one of the most technologically advanced cyclotrons in the world. IAMI also includes Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) capacity to support the development and production of new, leading-edge
diagnostic tracers and therapeutics.

IAMI is building the national capacity, expertise, and partnerships that will keep Canada at the forefront of radiopharmaceutical science — for Canadians today, and for the world’s patients tomorrow.

From The Artist

Referencing comic book storytelling and panel design, this illustration is inspired by the journey of a medical isotope and the chain of production from compact medical cyclotron to clinical application. I wanted to characterize the many hands that contribute to this process. From the central glow, the actinium -225 chemical structure emerges surrounded by imagery of a human cell, alluding to what research at IAMI is illuminating.
